Jawan Movie- Review: Jai (Sai Dharam Tej) is the perfect modern Ram – a man who is ready to sacrifice even his family for the good of the country. The Ravana of this story is his childhood friend Keshav (Prasanna), who has always been his Yang’s favourite. Self-righteous and always on the right track, Jai wants to join DRDO and be of service to her country.
On the other side of the coin is Keshav who was inclined towards crime from childhood and over time learned to do it in a smarter and more profitable way.
Joy also has a happy family, who always encourages her to follow her dreams. And then there’s Bhargavi (Mehreen) – artistic, smart and independent, with a mind of her own – a wasted character in a film she has no time for, except when the couple is in an exotic locale.

The song should be sung for Joy, country first and her family second. Why Bhargavi exists in this story is never made clear, as Jai clearly has no time for her. In this story she is Sita, for whom her Rama will always fight, but is pushed aside when the time comes.

‘Jawan’ is the story of Rama and Ravana – the face-off between Jai and Keshav. Love tracks, catchy songs etc provide good distraction in the first half, the audience gets impatient every time a song hits the screen in the second half. One such story can be fast-paced and entertaining – a man trying to protect a special missile launcher named ‘Octopus’ from falling into the wrong hands. But ‘Jawan’ is so busy telling the face-to-face story that it fails to focus on it.
After a long cat-and-mouse chase, fun dance films and romantic numbers in exotic locales, ‘Jawan’ ends with the hero saving the day and the villain dying agonizingly. The treatment of the film feels like an animated film like ‘Megamind’ or ‘Despicable Me’.
There are no gray characters or moments in the film – good and then bad, the story has an ending. No explanation or character development is ever given to justify the behavior, especially since the characters are introduced in their childhood. Aside from the obvious, some of the film’s key scenes are so silly that it’s hard to fathom a movie that takes itself seriously, but ends up being a satire.
Despite insufficient character development, Sai Dharam is good in the role of Tej Jai. Mehreen Peerzada as Bhargaveer is beautiful, articulate and powerful. Although Keshav’s character seems written to convey the danger in which he is ‘bad for evil’, Prasanna somehow fails to bring the aggression that the character demands.
Apart from the preachy dialogues about ‘desh bhakti’ and questionable political leanings, if you are a Sai Dharam Tej fan, you should go watch it. Otherwise stay away!

Jawan Movie Release Date
The Movie Jawan is slated for a theatrical release on 7 September 2023 in Hindi with dubbed versions in Tamil and Telugu. The film was earlier scheduled to release on June 2, 2023. Later in May 2023, it was reported that the film has been delayed to August 2023.
